Choosing A Verse to Pray for Your Son

Prayers! I'm not sure about you, but that is something my son needs a lot of. Sometimes I feel like I can't cover all of the bases in motherhood. It's almost impossible!!! But what I can do is pray, and through prayer, I leave it up to God to cover all the bases.

In an earlier post, here, I discussed this awesome community of boy moms called, MOB Society, that I connected with through social media (FB, Twitter, & Website) that has encouraged my weary moments , embraced my shortcoming but has also given me hope! Recently posted on their blog was a question that I was glad to see:

What if we got serious about praying for our boys in 2014?

How many of us are intentional in praying for our children, especially our boys? One of the things that I want my son to understand is how to love God and people. Many times you hear people say that a woman can't raise a man alone, I totally agree, but we can intentionally pray for our boys in areas where God can move and provide those opportunities for our sons spiritual growth and maturity in becoming God fearing men...and guess what...married mothers can do the same!

So, if we are serious, and I am....then let's choose a verse to pray over our sons in 2014!

Not sure where to start? Let me help you...

  • Take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal to you an area in your sons life that needs Him this year.
  • Search the scriptures (www.biblegateway.com) for one verse that captures that area and make it personal for your son/sons this year. If you have multiple sons, I encourage you to find a verse for each one of them. Each of their needs may be different.

When I prayed, God revealed to me that my son needed Him in the area of self-esteem. Sometimes my son lacks confidence in himself and his abilities. He doesn't always view himself in a positive way and I desire for God to come into his life in that area and reveal to him how much He (God) esteems and values him because he was created for and by God!

The verse I will be praying over my son for 2014 is:

What will you be praying for your boy(s) in 2014?

How I Study the Bible: My Color Code System

Grab your Bible! Find your Reading Plan! Grab your Scripture! READY...SET...GO! Now this is the part where I use to get stuck starring at the passage trying to figure out how I can make it stick. I've tried numerous things: Reading the scripture at least 5 times Writing the complete scripture out Listening to an audio version of the scripture  Reading the scripture in at least 2-5 other translations All those things are great to do but they weren't giving me the results I needed! I wanted to be able to study scripture effectively and pull out what I could apply to my life and actually put it into practice. So I decided to come up with a way that was helpful to how I wanted to study scripture more effectively.  Color Code System I decided to use a color code system. There are many color code systems available online that people use to study scripture. Some even use symbols, which I haven't tried yet, but I was looking for something simple and less co...

Who Do You Trust? Are You For Sure?

I work part-time at a local funeral home in my community where I serve as a media & design developer. This is the same funeral home that my family used during the passing of my dear grandmother. This week alone I created three memorial tributes for families that lost loved ones; one was the grandmother of one our of family's closest friends and the other was a cousin of our family. But this morning something happened that I didn't expect. I received a phone call that a very special cousin of mine had passed early this morning. My grandmother's death was difficult for me. Not because I was caught off guard by her passing, but because she was my best friend and one of the closest people to my heart. She knew my struggles, she knew my pain, but most importantly above all else, she celebrated my accomplishments. She was the Titus 2 woman in my life that the scripture talks about: {Titus 2:3-5} "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holine...

Testimony: Where I Came From

I use to go to church every time the doors were open. I sat in a building, a box, doing routine. When the music cranked up I did too. I ran with the best of them. The best singers, musicians, shouters, high energy-octane praisers, the whole time living a life that was leading me straight to hell. I was worn out, fake, lukewarm, swaying side to side, acting like one thing but living the other.
